Police arrested a Grayslake-area man over the weekend for making violent threats against a family member and discovered an arsenal of weapons inside the man’s home, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.
RB Warrens, 49, of the 33400 block of Lake Shore Drive near Gages Lake, remained in the county jail in lieu of $750,000 bail on weapons and electronic harassment charges, officials said.
Warrens was arrested during a Friday night traffic stop, where he was bitten by a police dog after he refused to comply with police and then reached into his clothing, police said. Officers said he had a loaded gun in the area where he was reaching.
A search of his home yielded dozens of firearms, including rifles, pistols, shotguns and AK-47s. The weapons were distributed in such a way that police believe Warrens was prepared for an armed confrontation with law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said.
Before Friday, a Warrens family member contacted police and said Warrens had threatened to kill the family member or anyone else who tried to remove him from his home. Based on that interview, police obtained a search warrant and an arrest warrant for electronic communication harassment.
However, rather than confront Warrens at home and possibly endanger neighbors, police said they opted to surveil his residence. When sheriff’s tactical team members saw Warrens leave at about 10:40 p.m. Friday, they followed him and took him into custody.
Based on the weapons found during the search, Warrens was charged with two weapons felonies.
