Western Springs Monday appointed and the Village Board unanimously approved an interim replacement for outgoing Police Chief Brian Budds.
Terry Mee, who most recently was interim police chief of Oak Brook, spent 11 years as police chief of Northwest Suburban East Dundee.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to have been selected and appointed by the Western Springs Village Board to serve the fine community of Western Springs as the Interim Chief of Police and Director of Law Enforcement Services while the Village continues its search for its next Director,” Mee said in a statement.
Budds left to take over as the police chief of Buffalo Grove earlier this month, prompting the search for his successor.
When Budds left, Village Manager Ellen Baer indicated that the search for a new Chief was “typically a 60 to 90 day project,” and said the new chief would be in place by sometime in February 2023.
The Village is not using a search firm for the new chief, but instead employing a team of staff members to interview candidates.
Most of Mee’s long career in law enforcement was spent filling various command positions with the Wheaton Police Department, a department he served for 30 years.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University and a master’s in Human Resource Management and Development.
