The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will hold its “Snowshoe Adventure” programs beginning this month to give participants the skills they need to be comfortable snowshoeing.

After mastering skills like stride length, heel-toe step and climbing over obstacles, participant will hit the trail for a naturalist-guided hike.

Four sessions of the program are planned, each from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The programs, which are for those 8 years old and older, are set for Jan. 28 at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles; Feb. 11 at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls, 40W095 Freeman Road in Gilberts; Feb. 26 at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve and March 18 at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls.

The fee is $25 for each program. Fees will be collected at the program, with payment by cash or check required, officials said. The fee includes equipment rental, skills training and guided hiking.

Registration and shoe size are required one week prior to the program, officials said. To register, call 630-444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com.

DuPage Foundation names new president

Michael R. Sitrick has been named the new president and CEO of the DuPage Foundation, succeeding David M. McGowan, who retired Dec. 30 after 25 years.

Sitrick most recently served as the foundation’s executive vice president for advancement and has held multiple roles within the organization since 2003.

The foundation is the philanthropic organization that manages more than $130 million in assets and has awarded more than $70 million in grants since its creation in 1986.

Sitrick has focused on supporting individuals, families and organizations achieve their charitable goals while helping match their interests to support local needs and opportunities, a news release from the foundation said. He was selected after a nationwide search by current and former foundation trustees.

A Lombard resident, Sitrick is a board member of the DuPage County Estate Planning Council, past president of Suburban Chicago Planned Giving Council, past board member of the West Suburban Philanthropic Network and a member of the Chicago Council on Planned Giving.

In 2016, Sitrick was recognized by the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce as an Inaugural “Four Under 40? recipient.
