Torrential rains last weekend didn’t dampen the appetite for a Spring celebration, brunch with the Easter Bunny on Saturday morning in Wilmette.

Families gathered for an ode to Easter at the annual Bunny Brunch and Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by the Wilmette Park District. This year the celebration was held at the Mallinckrodt Center.

“When we saw the rain come through on Friday night, we were worried our event today would be a muddy mess,” Marketing Communications Specialist for the Wilmette Park District Alison Rodes said. “While the doggy egg hunt had to be canceled completely, we were able to hold a smaller version of the kids egg hunt, avoiding the larger rain-soaked areas of Mallinckrodt Park.”

Marina Hartnet of Wilmette attended the Bunny Brunch with family.

“We live close by and love to celebrate the Easter season, we missed the event last year and so looked forward to participating today no matter what the weather was like,” Hartnet said.

According to Rodes, the Bunny Brunch program was originally designed so that families would be well fed for the egg hunt.

This year’s family breakfast buffet was catered by Unforgettable Edibles and offered full breakfast options during two 50-person events, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10 a.m. Reservations were required and offering a preregistered ticket price of $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents.

“This is just a fun time for the whole family, a time together to enjoy the Spring season, and to have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny,” Wilmette Park District Event Coordinator, Niki Koclanes said.
