Former Aurora alderman and mayoral candidate Judd Lofchie, Saul Olivas and incumbents Alex Arroyo and Juan Manuel Sifuentes Jr. appear to have won four-year seats on the East Aurora School Board in Tuesday’s election.
There were four, four-year school board seats and one two-year seat that were voted on Tuesday.
Bruce Schubert ran unopposed for the two-year seat on the board.
According to unofficial final results in the contest for the four, four-year seats, Lofchie earned 59.0% of the vote, Arroyo got 57.9%, Olivas received 55.2%, Sifuentes got 47.1% and Teasa Ezeh received 43.5%
Lofchie said Wednesday it felt great seeing the results. He said he’d like to meet with the superintendent and board members soon and examine the district’s long-range plan.
“I want to look at the plan and see what they want to accomplish and how I can help,” Lofchie said. “I want to get a vocational center started and I know it’s a priority for them too.”
Many of the school board candidates spoke about creating a vocational center similar to the one that West Aurora School District has which focuses on trade careers like plumbing, manufacturing, electrical and mechanical jobs.
Olivas works as a first-grade teacher for Oswego-based School District 308 and was previously named Kane County Early Educator of the Year in 2018. He previously worked for the East Aurora district as well. He said his perspective as a teacher will help the school board.
As for the incumbents in the contest for the four-year seats, Arroyo has served on the East Aurora School Board since 2015. Sifuentes has been a board member since 2019.
Schubert, who won the two-year seat in the election, has been on the East Aurora School Board since 2017.
The results include ballots cast on Election Day and during early voting. The totals could change pending arrival of any remaining vote-by-mail ballots.
