Naperville residents can pick up a rain barrel or compost bin from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 3, at The Conservation Foundation thanks to a partnership between the foundation and Will County.
It’s one of four events this spring through which people can pre-order a home rain barrel or compost bin for pickup, all sponsored by the county and the foundation, based in Naperville at 10S404 Knoch Knolls Road.
To take advantage of the Naperville event, mail-in orders are due May 25 and online orders are due May 28.
Residents who want their barrels or bins earlier can opt to pick up their products May 6 in Homer Glen, May 12 in Joliet or May 13 in Wilmington, a news release said. Orders are typically due about a week before the pickup event.
Residents can also pay for home delivery.
A rain barrel can capture between 70% and 90% of a typical rainfall, which can be used for watering gardens, plants, trees and bushes, according to the Will County Land Use Department. The water collected allows homeowners to save money while reducing the impact on drinking water supplies, a county news release said.
Compost bins can collect grass clippings, weeds, twigs, vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves and more, which create a natural fertilizer for gardens, flower beds and plants. It also helps hold moisture in the soil during hot, dry periods of year, the county said.
The cost for rain barrels ranges from $64.50 to $119 and for compost bins ranges from $75.50 to $186.50. Accessories are also available.
Products can be ordered online at upcycle-products.com/il-programs/wce.
Residents should select either home delivery or one of the four events to pick up their products.
