Four women make a commitment as Springfield Dominican associates
A commitment ceremony for the 2023 Springfield Dominican Associate class was held at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel on May 7.
Dominican associates embrace the Dominican traditions of prayer, study, community and ministry.
The associates include Lansing’s Jennifer Lyn Arreola and Homewood’s Colleen Peabody of Illinois and Schererville, Indiana’s Sarah Grauvogl and Linda Hansen.
They make individual commitments to volunteer ministries in their own parishes and communities. They may also join the sisters on committees and boards, work side by side with the sisters in their ministries, or provide logistical support for the congregation’s public events.
Palos 118 students win big at South Cook Math Bowl
Palos School District 118 teams won three first place division awards from the 2023 South Cook Math Bowl at Prairie State College in April.
The fifth/sixth grade team took first place with sixth graders Alira Lika placing fourth and John Maka taking second in the individual competition. The seventh/eighth grade team placed fourth with seventh grader Sarah Bobrowski and eighth grader Autumn Wrenn-Martin both taking fourth place in the individual awards.
The first-second grade team finished in first place with first graders Jacob Dubrowski taking fifth place and Jacob Michau taking first in the individual competition. Second graders Charlie O’Malley placed fourth and Claire Drapar received a third-place finish in the individual competition The third-fourth grade team came in first place with third grader Kevin Kaufmann taking first and fourth grader Nathan Bhojraj taking first place in the individual competitions.
“I’m so grateful that these students had the opportunity to pursue their interest in math and get recognized for it at the South Suburban Math Bowl,” Math Bowl coach and Palos East teacher Julie McNamara said.
RTHS Superintendent Thomas delivers keynote at Loyola
Rich Township High School District 227 Superintendent Johnnie Thomas was the keynote speaker at the Loyola Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health graduation ceremony. The event took place at the Gentile Arena, located on Loyola University Chicago’s campus on May 10.

University of Alabama student Chad Fortin of Orland Park is participating in the school’s cooperative education program during the summer 2023 semester. Fortin is working for RL Consulting, Inc.

More than 500 University of Kentucky undergraduates, including Glenwood’s Aaron West, recently met for the 17th annual Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars.
Hickory Hills student honored by University of Iowa
Anthony Mullan of Hickory Hills was one of 23 students enrolled in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa who received annual awards.
Mullan received the Department of Accounting Faculty Scholar Award, which is presented annually to students who have demonstrated superior academic performance and contributions to the department of accounting while completing an undergraduate accounting major.
