National Weather Service officials said wind chills of about 20 below zero are expected Wednesday morning as well as possible snow late in the afternoon making road conditions slippery.
Officials said the frigid air was a possibility in portions of north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Below zero wind chills are expected Wednesday morning and again later Wednesday night with a slight chance of snow starting in the afternoon.
The chance of snow was expected to increase to 30 percent overnight, officials said. Light snow accumulation was a possibility through the day and may lead to slippery road conditions late in the afternoon hours, officials warned.
Morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are mostly cloudy at 10 degrees with a wind chill of negative 12. Farther south at Midway Airport conditions are similar at 12 degrees with a wind chill of negative 11, officials reported.
Hats, gloves and scarfs should be worn Wednesday while outside to avoid frostbite.
