The National Weather Service received no reports of tornado touchdowns Friday night after cancelling a tornado watch early for several Northern Illinois counties.
After issuing a tornado watch shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, originally to last through 11 p.m., the weather service cancelled it in two waves — first for DeKalb and surrounding counties, then Cook County and collars.
While the weather service also issued a few severe thunderstorm warnings Friday night in north central Illinois, it has not identified any major reports from those events as of early Saturday morning, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Doom.
Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 82 F Saturday, and the heat index could rise to 87 F. There is a slight chance of rain in Chicago in the early evening, according to weather service forecasts.
