CAMP LAKESIDE REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Families can start counting down to summer fun as registration for Camp Lakeside’s 2026 season is now open at camplakeside.org. Located on 158 scenic acres along the shores of Lake Eliza in Valparaiso, Camp Lakeside is an inclusive summer day camp where school-aged children with disabilities and their neurotypical peers come together for eight weeks of adventure in a safe, structured space. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 8 through July 31. Each week features a unique theme — from The Circus Comes to Town and Out of this World to H2O Olympics and Holiday Hoedown — while core camp traditions stay consistent to help campers build confidence, friendships and life skills. CALUMET TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE TAI ADKINS HOSTS SENIOR FAIR
Calumet Township Trustee Tai Adkins will host a Senior Resource Fair from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday at the YWCA of Northwest Indiana, 150 W. 15th Ave., Gary. This free community event is designed to connect seniors and their families with trusted service providers, organizations and community resources that support healthy and independent living.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a variety of organizations offering information and assistance related to: health and wellness programs; community resource vendors; and benefits and enrollment support. The event will also feature workshops and live demonstrations focused on improving the health and quality of life for area seniors. There will be refreshments and raffles as well. FRANCISCAN HEALTH CROWN POINT, PARTNERS HOST SAFE KIDS DAY
Children and their families are invited to join in the fun at the free Lake County Safe Kids Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dean and Barbara White Southlake YMCA, 100 W. Burrell Drive, Crown Point. This interactive event will include a variety of activities and educational booths with information about keeping kids safe, healthy and happy. The Crown Point Lions Club will offer free eye exams for children during the event, and free bike helmets will be available while supplies last. Snacks and water will also be provided. Attendees can enter to win door prizes. Winners will be announced the following week and need not be present to win. Entry gifts will be distributed while supplies last. PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host a hearing so the public can review and comment on preliminary design plans for a proposed roadway improvement project along U.S. 41 from 3.35 miles south of U.S. 231 (to the south of W. 133rd Avenue) to U.S. 231. The proposed project is to construct a Two-Way Left-Turn Lane (TWLTL) along U.S. 41. To establish the TWLTL, U.S. 41 will be widened in both directions throughout the length of the proposed construction area. The purpose of the project is to improve the safety of the corridor. The hearing will be held Monday at Hanover Central High School, 10120 W 133rd Ave., Cedar Lake. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m., followed by an opportunity for verbal statements for the record. Project materials can be reviewed online at bit.ly/US41TWLTL. All verbal statements recorded during the public hearing and all written comments submitted before, during, and for a period of two weeks following the hearing date will be evaluated, considered, and addressed in subsequent environmental documentation.
