A 49-year-old man was fatally wounded while driving Tuesday night on the city’s South Side in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 7:45 p.m., the victim was driving in the 8800 block of South Paxton Avenue when he suffered two gunshot wounds to the head. He attempted to flee and crashed his vehicle on Paxton Avenue, police said.

He was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine where he was later pronounced dead. As of Wednesday morning, the victim had yet to be identified.

Detectives are investigating the fatal attack.
