If you need hope that there are people out in the world trying to do the right thing, head to Doc10 this weekend. The documentary film festival has a new series, “Speak Truth,” and the lineup is deep. Highlights include “Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie,” featuring a panel with the acclaimed author; “The Librarians,” a film about censorship with a live panel featuring actor and author Henry Winkler; “Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story,” followed by a panel with the comedian; “Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You,” along with a panel about comedians and free speech; “The Baddest Speechwriter of All” about Clarence B. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

International Jazz Day
International Jazz Day culminates in an All-Star Global Concert at the Lyric Opera House featuring more than 40 artists, including Herbie Hancock, Terence Blanchard, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves and Christian McBride. But you don’t have to wait until then to celebrate this uniquely American art form. Events — many free — will be held across the city. Chicago is the global host city for International Jazz Day, an initiative established by the United Nations and UNESCO in 2011. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
The beloved dance company performs two programs this weekend at Auditorium Theatre, both culminating in Alvin Ailey’s classic 1960 piece, “Revelations.” With artistic director Alicia Graf Mack now at the helm, the company will also present “Embrace,” choreographed by Fredrick Earl Mosely; “Blink of an Eye” by Medhi Walerski; “A Case of You” by the late Judith Jamison; “Jazz Island” by Maija García; “Difference Between” by Matthew Neenan; and “Song of the Anchorite” by Jamar Roberts. 7:30 p.m. April 24, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 25, and 3 p.m. April 26 at The Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Maya Hawke
Maybe you know her as Robin in “Stranger Things.” Maybe you know her as the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. This weekend, Maya Hawke makes a stop at Thalia Hall on a tour promoting her fourth album, “Maitreya Corso,” due out May 1. Zoé
The Mexican alt-rock band Zoé plays a two-night stand at the Rosemont Theatre. The band has been around since the ’90s, but started winning awards — two Latin Grammys and a Grammy for best Latin rock, urban or alternative album for “Aztlán” — about 20 years later. Lewis Capaldi
Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi plays the United Center days after the release of his latest EP, “Stay Love.” Best known for his Grammy-nominated song “Someone You Loved,” Capaldi is also the subject of the 2023 Netflix documentary, “How I’m Feeling Now,” chronicling the emotional impact of becoming a British pop sensation. 7:30 p.m. April 25 at United Center, 1901 W. We Them Ones Comedy Tour
“Friday” star Mike Epps hosts a night of comedy at Wintrust Arena, featuring DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller, Chico Bean, Tony Roberts, Just Nesh, and Jayski.
