HOBART MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED RAPE

A Hobart man has been charged with attempted rape.

James C. Carter, 57, is also charged with criminal confinement, intimidation and two misdemeanors.

He posted a $6,500 cash bond on June 12. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday. His next hearing is Aug. 19.

The victim reported the assault to Hobart Police on June 8. After a shower, he asked her to check something on his back, then he grabbed her hair, tried to force her to perform a sex act and tried to pin her down. Afterwards, he said he was “just testing the waters,” records state.

When police officers later asked him what happened, he claimed there was no physical confrontation and they were arguing over a friend who showed up.

In the past, the woman said Carter threatened to “cave in” his adult child’s head while their “brains ooze out,” the affidavit states.

He also threatened to “bash her face and head” for changing the Comcast passcode. The woman said she doesn’t want him jailed, since she “loves him,” records state.
