WOOFSTOCK FUNDRAISER TO HELP ANIMAL RESCUE

Elgin-based nonprofit Hoof Woof & Meow Animal Rescue will hold its Woofstock fundraiser and awareness event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, outside The Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee.

The day will feature music, a meet-and-greet area with dogs and cats available for adoption, a kids craft tent, raffles, a 50/50 drawing and vendor booths, according to the group’s website. Hoof Woof & Meow is a volunteer-run nonprofit that works with other organizations and people to save homeless animals throughout Illinois and elsewhere.

FOUR CONCERTS RESCHEDULED THIS WEEK BY STORMS

Severe weather over the past week led Elgin, East Dundee, Hanover Township and South Elgin to reschedule free outdoor concerts that were to be June 10-11.

East Dundee’s Wine Down Wednesday concert featuring Brass on Fire is now set for 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, outside The Depot, 319 N. River St., according to a social media post.

South Elgin’s Wednesday concert featuring 90s Pop Nation has been rescheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Panton Mill Park, 9 N. Water St.

Elgin’s Thursday, June 11, Silent Disco at The Pavilion in Lords Park has been rescheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Wing Park Bandshell, 1010 Wing St.

Thursday’s Fuze concert at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Reserve, 899 Jay St., Elgin, has been rescheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30. Da Pizza Company food truck will be onsite.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP MENTAL HEALTH BOARD FUNDING

The Hanover Township Mental Health Board has approved $55,000 in funding requests.

At its May 26 meeting at the Senior Center in Bartlett, the board granted $25,000 to Marklund’s Wasmond Center in Elgin to purchase new medication administration equipment, according to the release. Wasmond Center residents require 24-hour care to assist them with daily living.

The board also granted Geneva-based CASA Kane County $20,000 for its court advocacy program.

“This program ensures that children in the foster care system have a trained voice advocating for their best interests,” the release said.

The board’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Township Senior Center, 240 S. Route 59, Bartlett.

NONPROFIT ELGIN ARTS GROUP AWARDS 9 SCHOLARSHIPS

Elgin-based nonprofit Fox Valley Beaux Arts has awarded $10,000 in scholarships to nine recent high school graduates to help them pay their arts studies.

The recipients are Julia Calzante, Bartlett High School, who will study photography at Columbia College Chicago; Jenna Fox, Bartlett High School, who will study music voice performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; Rebecca Herrmann, South Elgin High School, who will study music voice performance at Millikin University in Decatur; Kai Oliveira, Westminster Christian, who will study drawing at Wheaton College; Diego Quintanilla Pineda, Larkin High School, who will study the clarinet at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Also, Makayla Preuss, Larkin High School, who will study visual arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; Madison Redden, Bartlett High School, who will study drawing at Columbia College Chicago; Ian Roberts, South Elgin High School, who will study music voice performance at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin; and Ivan Zamudio, South Elgin High School, who will study music voice performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

“Our club’s mission is to elevate the arts through area youth scholarships, community art support and lifelong learning,” group Co-president Susan Pepa said in the release. “We are proud to continue our tradition and award these amazingly creative students.”
