A Carpentersville man who stopped to change a tire on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near Lansing was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, according to the Illinois State Police.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as 23-year-old Sebastian D. Stone. An autopsy Thursday determined he died from multiple blunt force injuries. His death was ruled an accident.

State police officials said Stone was on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of I-80 near Torrance Avenue when he was struck by an unknown vehicle just before 5:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact state police at 847-294-4400.
