Jacob Briggs, of New Lenox, pled guilty to possessing child pornography Friday after a jury trial and his initial arrest in October 2025.
Briggs was sentenced to 490 days in prison and 48 months on probation, according to court documents. He was also registered with the state as a lifetime sexual offender, according to the certificate signed by a judge.
New Lenox police arrested Briggs, of the 1200 block of Timber Place, after an investigation that began in July 2025. Police received a tip that he was downloading and sharing child pornography online, according to court documents.
Briggs was found to be in possession of three videos that included a child under the age of 13, according to court documents. The court found that Briggs knew or should have reasonably known the child was under 18 years of age, according to court documents.
New Lenox police chief Micah Nuesse said the guilty plea marks an important milestone in the case.
“This outcome reflects the hard work of our investigators and the commitment of the justice system to ensure accountability,” he said in a statement. “We remain focused on serving our community with integrity and supporting those impacted by crime.”
The Will County State’s Attorney’s office said the guilty plea and conviction ensures that Briggs will be held accountable under the law. The office also said that Briggs’ registration as a sex offender provides an additional measure of protection for the community.
“Every image of child pornography represents the abhorrent abuse and exploitation of a real child,” said James Glasgow, Will County State’s Attorney, in a statement. “…there will be no hiding from these kinds of crimes.”
“Our office remains committed to seeking justice for victims and protecting children from those who fuel the demand for this grotesque and devastating abuse,” said Glasgow.
