A Lake Station man was charged Monday after allegedly stabbing a man twice with a machete.
Timothy Lee Gaffney, 34, is charged with attempted murder, battery by means of a deadly weapon and intimidation. He hasn’t been apprehended. When arrested, he is ordered held without bond.
Police responded at 11:20 a.m. July 4 to the 4400 block of Park Avenue after the victim called 911.
He told police he was sleeping when Gaffney kicked down his bedroom door and swung the machete at him several times.
“I’m gonna kill you,” Gaffney said.
The victim said they hadn’t gotten along, but nothing would have predicted what happened.
At first, Gaffney lied to police, then later admitted he only remembered “standing over” the victim. He guessed he heard a “firework” or “had a PTSD episode.”
