A 30-year-old Bloomingdale man was hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash early Wednesday in Geneva that left a portion of Route 25 closed for a few hours, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of North Bennett Street, or Route 25, in Geneva, a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the man was driving northbound on North Bennett Street when the vehicle exited the roadway, striking a brick mailbox, a parked vehicle in a driveway and a utility pole, the release said.

The man was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with serious injuries following the crash, the State’s Attorney’s Office said.

The Geneva police and fire departments — with assistance from the St. Charles Police Department, Geneva Emergency Management Agency and Kane County Office of Emergency Management — responded to the crash, the news release said. The city of Geneva’s Electric Department personnel responded to cut off power to the utility pole.

A portion of Route 25 from Woodward Avenue in Geneva to Moore Avenue in St. Charles was closed during the early morning Wednesday while law enforcement and emergency management personnel were on the scene, according to the news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office. The roadway was ultimately reopened at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, officials said.

The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is overseeing an ongoing investigation into the incident, the State’s Attorney’s Office said.
