The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Tuesday morning on the Southwest Side in the Little Village neighborhood, officials said.
COPA investigators responded early Tuesday morning to the shooting near the 2600 block of South Drake Avenue. Chicago police said the incident unfolded shortly before 3:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Drake Avenue when officers attempted to arrest a suspect for possession of a stolen vehicle.
During the arrest, the suspect tried to disarm an officer. Another officer’s weapon discharged during the incident, according to Chicago police.
No one was struck, but an officer suffered minor injuries, and was taken to an area hospital in fair condition, police said. The suspect also suffered minor injuries and was taken in fair condition to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was placed into police custody, officials said.
