A Wheaton man taken into custody after taking Naperville police on a high-speed chase was found to have methamphetamine and other drugs in his car as well as more than a dozen cell phones and a large amount of cash, officials said.
Jahron J. Faulkner, 24, of the 700 block of West Liberty Drive, faces felony charges of possession of 15 to 100 grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of 15 to 100 grams of methamphetamine, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and possession of a controlled substance.
He also was charged with misdemeanor obstruction, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver and issued a ticket for improper window tinting, a news release said.
A police officer pulled Faulkner over about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on a traffic stop in the 0 to 100 block of Whispering Hills Drive when he smelled and saw evidence of cannabis use and told Faulkner to get out of the car, the release said. He refused and instead took off through a residential area at a high rate of speed, according to the report.
He eventually stopped between two apartment buildings in the 100 block of South Whispering Hills Drive and fled on foot before being caught by the pursuing officer, the release said.
A search of the vehicle turned up a substances believed to be meth, psychedelic mushrooms classified as psilocybin, traces of cannabis, an undisclosed amount of cash and more than a dozen cell phones, officials said.
“Fleeing from the police at a high rate of speed through a residential neighborhood puts innocent people at risk, and we will not tolerate that kind of dangerous behavior in our community,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a statement.
“Thanks to the work of the officer who initiated this stop and the team that supported the investigation, a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine and other illegal drugs were taken off the street and the individual allegedly responsible is facing serious charges,” he said.
