Singer R. Kelly was arrested Thursday in Chicago on new federal charges alleging child pornography and obstruction of justice, including allegations that he paid to recover child-sex tapes and pressured witnesses to change their stories before his pornography trial that ended in acquittal a decade ago.

Kelly, 52, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was charged in a 13-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Chicago, the Northern District of Illinois. Also charged were Kelly’s former manager, Derrel McDavid, and a former employee, Milton “June” Brown, according to a copy of the Chicago indictment obtained by the Chicago Tribune, which can be read below.

New York detention request

A letter from federal prosecutors in Brooklyn was delivered to a U.S. District Court judge asking that Kelly be held without bail before he can be removed to the Eastern District of New York and tried for what prosecutors allege is a “racketeering enterprise” to traffic and abuse women and girls.
