Beverly Wirth Baron OBITUARY

Dr. Beverly Wirth Baron, of Chestnut Hill, MA (formerly of Skokie, Illinois), died on Thursday, July 16, 2026, after a long illness.

She was born in Albany, NY, the daughter of physician immigrants who had fled Nazi Germany. She attended Barnard College and then the University of Chicago and George Washington University Medical Schools. For decades she was the Medical Director of the Blood Bank at the University of Chicago and a physician investigator. She founded and directed a fellowship program in blood banking/transfusion medicine and was known for her dedication to the highest standards of patient care and scientific rigor in discovering new lymphoma treatment targets.

Outside of work and family, her greatest loves were traveling, classical music, art, flowering plants, and word games.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Joseph Mandel Baron. She is survived by her daughters Drs. Rebecca Baron, Miriam Baron Barshak, and Elinor Baron; sister and brother-in-law Drs. Susan Wirth Balter and Paul Balter; son-in-law Jason Barshak, daughter-in-law Sara K. de Bethune, and four grandchildren.
