Carolyn Bertagnoli OBITUARY
Carolyn Bertagnoli, 93, died peacefully at home on June 25. Born in Chicago to Loretta and Martin Hoekstra, Carolyn enjoyed a life filled with family, friends and rescue dogs; she loved travel, opera, art, books, coffee, the Bears and baseball. While raising four children alone, she worked ’til age 85, including posts at Roosevelt High School in Chicago, AT&T and as “the flower lady” at the Jewel in Andersonville.
Carolyn moved through life with joy, an eye for beauty, grace, dignity, and when needed, great fortitude. Preceded in death by her parents, sons John and James and sister Marianne Kelly. Survived by daughters Lisa (William Schober) and Laurie, sisters Susan White and Lora Hinton, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one niece, two nephews, many friends and Lulu. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1650 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church (ebenezerchurch.org) or Care for Real (careforreal.org).
