Cheryl Hansen, nee Checker, passed away May 29, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Cheryl dedicated her life to the fire service and emergency medical services. She served as a firefighter-paramedic with the Clarendon Heights FPD, a paramedic and EMS coordinator with Tri-State FPD, before going to Plainfield FPD as an EMS coordinator. Cheryl continued her passion in the fire service by serving as a Fire Commissioner with Tri-State FPD until her passing. Cheryl was devoted to rescuing animals and fostered many pets over the years, ensuring they found loving homes. Many times, the loving home was with her and Mark. She enjoyed nurturing her plants and creating beautiful outdoor floral displays in the summer and for the holidays. Cheryl and Mark shared a passion for golf, always eager to refine their skills and enjoy time on the course together. She was a true caregiver, always making sure everyone around her was cared for, supported, and loved. She is survived by her husband Mark Hansen, loyal companions Budz and Ashley, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Checker; her father-in-law, Harvey Hansen; and her mother-in-law, Shirley Hansen. Memorial visitation, Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service, 11:00 am at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien.
