Dallas Kendall Albert OBITUARY

Dallas Kendall Albert, 98, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Dallas, known to friends and peers as Ken, was born on August 26, 1927, in Vienna, Illinois, to Herbert and Pearl (Keniepp) Albert. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta (Cobb), and his son, John Albert. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Patty (Tom) Welch; grandchildren Ashley (Zach) Leavy, Christopher Dalke, and Kendelle Albert (Dylan) Patterson; great-granddaughter Payton; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness. Ken lived a life defined by integrity, humility, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family. He believed that the greatest measure of a life was not found in accomplishments alone, but in the kindness shown to others, the work done with pride, and the love shared with family and friends. He spent his youth in southern Illinois, Michigan City, Indiana, and Naperville, Illinois. After graduating from high school in 1944, he answered his country’s call by enlisting in the United States Navy at just 17 years old during World War II. He proudly served his country and ended his Naval career as an Instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Air Technical Training Center, rank of E2. mFollowing his military service, Ken pursued his passion for science. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Memphis State University before continuing his education at Purdue University, where he received his master’s degree in chemistry. He began his professional career with Standard Oil in Texas City, Texas, and spent the next 32 years doing work he genuinely loved. He retired in 1986 from the Amoco Research Center in Naperville as a Senior Chemist, leaving behind a successful career marked by dedication and excellence. While living in Memphis, Ken met the love of his life, Loretta Cobb. They were married in 1953 and shared 64 wonderful years together until Loretta’s passing in 2018. Together they built a home filled with love and lasting memories while raising their two children. Some of the family’s happiest times were spent camping across the United States, creating adventures and memories that would be cherished for their lifetime. To his children and grandchildren, Ken was a steady source of love, wisdom, encouragement, and quiet strength. He never sought recognition, yet his patient nature, strong moral compass and unwavering support shaped the lives of those who knew him best. In 1974, Ken and his family became members of Community United Methodist Church in Naperville, where he remained a faithful member and devoted supporter throughout his life. Ken found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved working on his land in southern Illinois, reading a good book, and had a lifelong appreciation for all things Western. Whether spending time outdoors or enjoying one of his historical cowboy books, he found contentment in the things that mattered most. Ken’s greatest legacy is not found in the years he lived, but in the way he lived them, with gentle grace, humility, compassion, and unconditional love. Ken exemplified generosity and asked for nothing in return. He knew the value of a good deed and supported many charitable organizations throughout his life. He leaves behind a family who adored him, a life well lived, and countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and inspiration for generations to come. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. The family invites all who knew and loved Ken to join them for a Celebration of Life at 6:30 p.m. at Vai’s Italian Restaurant, 916 S. Route 59, Naperville, where stories, laughter, and memories will be shared in honor of a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), an organization close to Ken’s heart.
