Duane W. Groch OBITUARY

Duane W. Groch, 76, of Big Rock, IL (formerly of Plainfield and Wood Dale) passed away Friday, July 3, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1949 in Chicago to Stephen and Alma (neé Sueper) Groch, the middle of seven children. He was a man of few words but his actions proved dedication to his family, community and profession. For 40 years he labored as a cement mason, absorbing the aches without complaint while contributing to notable structures in the region and building a well-constructed family. Duane was an avid sports participant and supporter, running track and playing football in his youth and hitting a golf ball in his retirement. He loved watching the Bears, Cardinals and all his sons’ various sports teams. He found solace in working the soil of his garden and sharing its yield with those he loved. Despite never once using a thermometer, he grilled a perfect medium-rare steak every time. Never was he more at ease than when riding his Harley while blasting CCR.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Mary Aros. He is survived by his wife Denise (Aros) Groch, his sons Adam (Christina), Benjamin (Mariana), Nicholas, Matthew (Tess), and Peter. Brothers Terry, Bud (Cheryl), Randy (Debbie). Sisters Wannie (Nick) Avender, Reneé (Ron) Hartmann, Celeste (Bill) Zozokos. Grandchildren Colton, Parker, Quinn and Julian. Many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church in Sugar Grove on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 11:00am. Visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude at stjude.org or a preferred charity.
