Gary John Oros OBITUARY
Gary John Oros, 77, of Grand Detour, Il passed away in his home on Sunday, June 28th, 2026. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 21 years before his retirement in 2009. He is survived by his two sons, Anthony Oros (Melissa Castor) and Andrew (Mary) Oros; two grandchildren Marlee Oros, Benjamin Oros, and two sisters Bonnie Kopp, Leigh Ann (Jim) Jackson, and many nieces and nephews to whom he greatly loved and spent time with. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Randy Kopp.
Gary was born on March 3rd, 1949 in Aurora, Il to John and Esther (Larsen) Oros. The later part of his life, he was affectionately known as “Beepa” and while he loved many people throughout his life, nothing brought him greater joy than being Beepa to his two grandchildren, Marlee and Ben. They were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment he spent making memories with them.
To any neighborhood he spent time in, Gary was everyone’s grandpa. It wasn’t unusual to find him rounding up kids for a pickup baseball game at the park, leading a walk to the ice cream shop, or collecting a few extra kids along the way to some sort of Beepa shenanigan, who wanted to be a part of the fun. He had a gift for making people feel included, welcomed, and cared for.
An avid golfer, he shared many golf trips with life-long friends. Countless stories came from these excursions.
Gary never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh. He was known for his wonderfully terrible dad-jokes. His sense of humor was one of his greatest gifts, and he used it often to brighten the lives of those around him.
He was a caring father who deeply loved his sons and took immense pride in the men they became. One of Gary’s proudest personal accomplishments was achieving more than four years of sobriety before his passing. It was a journey that reflected his resilience, humility, courage, and determination. His life was a testament that growth, redemption, and love are always possible.
Above all else, Gary’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless lives he touched simply by being Beepa. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at St. George’s in Aurora, Il at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon, Il.
Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon completed arrangements.
