Gerald Schaefers OBITUARY

Gerald A. Schaefers, 85, a longtime resident of Aurora, IL and Palm Desert, CA, passed away peacefully June 17th, 2026 surrounded by his nephew Greg and loved ones.

Born on April 27th, 1941, in Aurora, IL, to Joseph and Ruth Schaefers (Perry). After graduating from Marmion Academy in Aurora, IL, Jerry went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Soon after, Jerry began his long career with a company called Equipto in the late 1960’s moving up the ranks in San Mateo, CA, before retiring in 1995.

Jerry was a lifelong avid bike rider. He loved watching sports in general and had a definite passion for college sports. Jerry was someone who was always helping neighbors, friends and family with odd jobs that kept him busy after retiring. Jerry could often be spotted driving his truck around town with his POBXUSA plates. But no matter how busy he was and whether you knew him as a friend, neighbor, handyman, or simply that person that delivered poinsettias to many friends and locals every holiday season, he was a man you could always count on.

He is survived by his brother Richard and sister-in-law Mary Alice Schaefers (Gleason), his brother-in-law Bob Henert, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph and sister-in-law Miriam Schaefers (Streit) and his sister Mary Henert (Schaefers).

A celebration of life will be held at a date still TBD.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Volunteers for Veterans Foundation.
