Grace Whiting OBITUARY

Grace Whiting, 71, of River Forest, IL, passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2026. She was an adored wife, a beloved mother, babcia and friend. Grace immigrated from Swinoujscie, Poland in 1960 with her parents and brother, Wally. She spent her childhood in Chicago and attended Madonna High School where she met her best friend, Alicia Pufundt. She then attended UIC for her bachelor’s degree where she met the love of her life, Dave. Grace and Dave married shortly after graduation and have spent 48 happy years together. Grace began her career in corporate human resources before moving to the education sector, where she found great joy in helping students of all levels secure employment. While working at Dominican University, she also earned her MBA. Her ability to balance family, work, and higher education was an inspiration to all. She gave back to her community in numerous ways, notably as an election judge, and through her tireless service on many St. Luke school and parish committees. Grace delighted in decorating her home and hosting family and friends for the holidays. She was an expert baker famous for her ability to flawlessly time and orchestrate an incredible feast of over 30 dishes. Grace is survived by her husband, David Whiting, daughters Katie (Jason Krasowski) and Julie (Jordan Barton), grandchildren Teddy and Annie, and dog, Stanley. Grace will be missed every day by all those that knew her. Service Details: Visitation at Peterson-Bassi Funeral home in Chicago from 2-6pm on Sunday, June 28 and Funeral mass at St. Luke Church in River Forest at 11am on Monday June 29. Grace had the most vibrant spirit and loved all things colorful. Please wear something joyful: pinks, blues, greens, whatever you want, to her services to celebrate her.
