J. Douglas Martner OBITUARY
John Douglas “Doug” Martner was born in Aurora, Illinois, on December 31, 1937, to Clyde and Elanor Martner. Doug passed away peacefully at Bolingbrook Hospital in Bolingbrook, Illinois, on June 26, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Allen (Barb) Martner; and two children, John Martner and Michelle Martner.
He is Survived by his sister, Clair (Denny) Erickson. Doug attended East Aurora High School, where he met his first wife, Vicki, with whom he had four children: Kimberly (Mario) Sammarco, Sherri (Steve) Middleton, John Martner and Michelle Martner. He later married Evelyn and became a stepfather for her three children: Franklin (Colette) Kurtz, Theresa (Richard) Low, and David (Kim) Kurtz.
Doug owned Domar Industries, a government contracting and manufacturing company located in Sandwich, Illinois, from the 1970s to the mid-1980s. After selling the business, he worked at Walmart before retiring.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy (Jill) Middleton, Jessica (Chase) Lovell, Tyler (Kenzie) Middleton, Liz Middleton, Michelle (Scotty) Smith, Kristal Martner, Melissa (Tom) Watts, James (Kimberly) Speerly, Matthew Speerly and Trevor (Alison) Kurtz; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the funeral home in Somonauk with Reverend Tom Bourke officiating. Burial with military honors by, Plano American Legion, will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinkley. Memorials May be directed to the charity of your choice.
