Janet M. Acheson, age 75, a long-time resident of Naperville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. She was born on March 18, 1951, in Cleveland, OH. Janet is survived by her children, Brad (Theresa) Acheson of Nashotah, WI, and Lindsay (Matthew) DeCeault of Poway, CA; and her grandchildren, Olivia, James, Audrey, and Theodore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Craig, her sister, Carol, and her parents, Daniel and Rose Votypka (née Valigurski). Janet grew up in Orange, Ohio, and went to Orange High School before earning her early education degree from Bowling Green State University. She spent years as an elementary school teacher, mostly at Our Lady of Peace School in Darien, Illinois. She loved teaching generations of kids how to read and write, and nothing made her happier than running into former students years later and seeing how they had grown. An educator at heart, Janet shared her love of music and nature with everyone around her. She rarely missed a band or choir concert for her kids or her students, loved watching the Chicago Bulls, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Janet was a steady presence as a wife and mother, and she was incredibly proud to be a grandmother, answering both “Jo Mama” and “Mee-maw.” Her spirit will live on in the family she built and the lives she touched. Mill St., Naperville. Family and friends will gather on Monday, July 27, for a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville IL 60540.
