Jeanne Ann Sattler OBITUARY

Jeanne Ann Sattler OBITUARY

Jeanne Ann Sattler passed away peacefully on April 16, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

She was a devoted wife to her recently deceased husband, John Sattler; a proud and loving mother to Tim; a cherished mother-in-law to Liz; and an extraordinary grandmother to Clark, Maggie, and Jimmy Sattler. She was the beloved daughter of the late Genevieve and Fenton Ellis, and a dear sister to the late Colleen and her husband, Paul O’Toole.

Jeanne Ann lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service. She credited her mother as the anchor of her strong spiritual foundation and her grandmother as a model of kindness and holiness—early influences that shaped her lifelong commitment to God, to others, and to the dignity of every person.

She dedicated her life to education, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. She retired from St. Viator High School in 1997, where she also served on the Board of Directors. She previously taught at Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart, and Queen of Peace, inspiring students both academically and personally. She earned her degree in Education from Edgewood College and later received master’s degrees in Theology and Library Science from the University of Notre Dame. Her work was recognized with numerous honors, including Teacher of the Year at Sacred Heart in 1974 and the Fr. Querbes Award in 1989 for modeling the mission of St. Viator.

A lifelong advocate for social justice, Jeanne Ann was deeply involved in faith-based organizations, including Call to Action, the 8th Day Center, and WRES. She was passionate about promoting racial equity and advancing dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all, guided by her faith and inspired by leaders such as Mother Teresa, Oscar Romero, Dorothy Day, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Jeanne Ann met her beloved husband, John, during her graduate studies, and their relationship grew through shared faith and values. Their marriage was built on love, respect, and a shared joy for life. Together, they created a life centered on family, friendship, and faith, cherishing 53 years of “living, loving, and laughing.”

She found joy in life’s simple moments—traveling, attending plays and musicals, and spending time with loved ones. Known for her thoughtful and personal touches, she often arrived with a handwritten note or a box of Frango Mints. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved.

Her warmth, grace, and radiant smile brought comfort to all who knew her. She listened with care, spoke with kindness, and lived with humility.

Jeanne Ann was a woman of deep faith, grounded in the promise of the Resurrection and shaped by the Civil Rights Movement and the Second Vatican Council. She lived as a reflection of God’s love—serving others with compassion, humility, and grace.

We take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband, John, and all who have gone before her. Her life reflected the call:

“to act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with your God.”
