Kenneth Eugene Keeling, age 93, of Western Springs; beloved Husband of Dolores “Dolly” (née Stojetz); loving Father of Kenneth (Debra) Keeling III, Kristie (Michael) Powers, & Kerrie (Bryan) Roszak; proud Grandfather of Brendan, Kenneth IV, Christopher II, Caleb (Danielle), Nathaniel, Kylie (Joshua), Blaine (Linzi), Shawn (Courtney), Tyler, Loren (fiancé Jessica), Matthew (fiancé Hannah), & Hallie (fiancé Brayden); Great-grandfather of 18; dear Brother of the late Richard Keeling; Son of the late Kenneth & the late Hilda (née Wagner) Keeling; dear Uncle and friend of many, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2026.
Ken was born and raised in Chicago graduating from St. Mel’s Catholic High School. He received a BA degree from the Chicago Teacher’s College and earned his Master’s Degree in Business Education from Northern Illinois University. Prior to serving in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, Ken married Dolly, the love of his life, and shared 73 wonderful years. While serving in the 8th Army he received a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, as well as a Korean Service Ribbon.
Ken started his career in education at J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero. After teaching business courses, he began his next chapter by assuming the administrative position of Asst.-Principal for many years. During this time, he took on the additional responsibilities as Business Manager of Morton. Recognizing his talent and devotion he was subsequently promoted to Asst. Superintendent of the District and retiring as Superintendent after 32 years. Post retirement Ken continued to serve as Business Manager for North Berwyn School District 98 for another 17 years.
Ken had a passion for reading, tennis, racquetball, and golf resulting a penchant for chasing small balls with varying degrees of success. He also looked forward to annual trips to Panama City Beach, Florida with family and friends as well as summer vacations to Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. He was involved in the community serving on a number of committees and boards. Ken was a devoted parishioner of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church including serving on the Building Committee when the new church was planned.
Ken will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and generosity, but mostly for his unwavering devotion to his family who will always love him and miss him dearly.
Visitation 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, July 7 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St, Countryside. Funeral prayers 10:15 am on Wednesday, July 8 at the funeral home followed by A procession to St. John of the Cross Church, Western Springs for 11am Mass. Internment Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ken’s name to St. John of the Cross are appreciated.
