Lawrence David Bell – Builder of Hospitals

Lawrence David Bell died peacefully near Rhinebeck, NY on June 25, 2026 at age 80. Dear brother of Cynthia Bell Buckles (Robert), and Donna Bell Zimmer (David). Beloved Uncle of Amy Zimmer, Kristen Zimmer, Julie McCann, and Jennifer Quigley. Great-uncle of Sky Pavlov, David Quigley and Anna Quigley. Larry loved his family and friends, managed major hospital construction for several hospital systems, and was generous to numerous charitable organizations.

Larry was born on January 21,1946 in Detroit to Merton and Gladys Bell. He graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School where he was a runner in track and cross country. He then went to the University of Michigan where he earned 3 degrees (BSE ’68, MSE’69, MBA’70). During his career, he was a hospital builder with major projects at: McNeil Hospital System, Northwestern Medicine (Cadance) Central DuPage Hospital, Delnor Hospital (Cadance) new cancer Center major renovation, and Vassar Brothers Hospital Replacement.

Larry was a committed volunteer at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY every Monday after retirement. He established a scholarship fund in memory of his parents that supports the tuba section of the University of Michigan Marching Band. He stayed involved with his fraternity brothers from Theta Delta Chi and had a Superbowl party for them every year – first in the Chicago area and then in Beulah, MI. All his life, Larry would vacation in Scottsdale, Arizona.
