Mardonna Isenberg OBITUARY

Mardonna Isenberg of Lake Forest, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Mardonna was the beloved daughter of the late Gunnar and Anna Grahn. She was the loving sister of Darlene Galser; her twin brother, Marvin (Geraldine) Grahn; and late brother Everett and his wife Barbara Grahn. Beloved aunt to 14 nieces and nephews.

Mardonna shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, James. Together they built a life centered on love, family, friendship, and shared experiences.

A dedicated educator, Mardonna taught high school in both Chicago and Niles for more than 10 years. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Social Studies Education and later earned her master’s degree in History from Northwestern University. She had a lifelong passion for learning and the arts, especially theater, history, and music. She also found great joy in visiting botanical gardens and spending time outdoors. When she was not appreciating the arts, she enjoyed playing golf with James.

Mardonna will be remembered for her intelligence, warmth, curiosity, and deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. She touched the lives of her students, family, and friends with kindness and grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026 starting at 2 pm at Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035
