Marlene Mae Smith OBITUARY
Marlene Mae Smith, age 90, of Plano, IL passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at her home in Plano, IL. She was born on October 1, 1935, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Earl and Mae (Prouty) Miller.
Marlene was united in marriage on August 17, 1957, to Arthur John Smith, and they spent 55 happy years together, until his passing in 2012. They were blessed with four children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Marlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plano, IL. She was a graduate of North Central College in Naperville, IL, where she met her husband Arthur who also attended North Central College. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Education – English and Mathematics and began her teaching career with the East Aurora School District #131, before leaving to become a homemaker. She returned to teaching with the Plano Community School District #88, before leaving to become co-owner with her husband of Davis Construction Company of Plano, IL.
She is survived by her children, Lynn Smith of Sandwich, IL (Open Door) and Nancy (Tim) Warren of Plano, IL; her four grandchildren, Jenna (Tremayne) Glover of Aurora, IL, Rachel (Will) Stover of Plano, IL, Brandon (Jennifer) Warren of Yorkville, IL, and Lucas (Leah) Warren of Oswego, IL; her great-grandchildren, Breanna and Taylor Glover, Anthony Warren, Alexzis, Zack and Jason Stover, Hudson and Kennedy Warren and Winona Warren; her great-great-granddaughter Elizabeth (“Ellie”) Warren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mae Miller; her husband Arthur John Smith; her son Arthur John Smith, Jr. and daughter Laurie Kay Smith; her brothers-in-law, Charles Smith, James Smith, Harold Smith and sisters-in-law Muriel Moore, June Smith, Frances Smith, Dorothea (“Dottie”) Smith, Treyon Smith, and Doris Smith.
A private burial will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, IL.
