Mary Anne King OBITUARY
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Anne King on Monday, June 22, 2026. Born on November 17, 1937, to Charles and Edna (Walsh) King, Mary Anne grew up on the West Side of Chicago and attended Mundelein College. For decades, she was an elementary school teacher, first for the Archdiocese of Chicago and later with Chicago Public Schools at George B. Armstrong Elementary School in Rogers Park. Through her teaching, she developed lasting relationships with countless students, many of whom remained in touch with her throughout her life. Apart from teaching, she maintained an active and vibrant life through her love of the outdoors, particularly near Lake Michigan. She loved to walk, ride her bike, and even roller skate. She was also an active member of her parish, St. Athanasius in Evanston. A role model for everyone she encountered, she had an immeasurable impact on her students, shaping them to be intelligent and loving people at the most formative moment of their lives. She is lovingly remembered and missed by her family – her students and her lifelong friends. Graveside Service and Interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Evanston, were private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, P.O. Box 7154, Carol Stream, IL 60197 (catholiccharities.net); True Way International (Christian Missionaries), 9375 Parkside Dr., Des Plaines, IL 60016; or Right-Way Rescue, 5915 Lincoln Ave., Morton Grove, IL 60053 (wright-wayrescue.org). Funeral info: 847.673.6111 or habenfuneral.com to leave a condolence message.
