Mary Lou Pattermann OBITUARY

Mary Lou Pattermann was born on September 10, 1936, in Aurora, IL to Henry and Eva (Kartheiser) Leick. She grew up on the family farm in Aurora and graduated from Madonna High School in 1954. In September 1954, she met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Pattermann, at an Annunciation Catholic Church picnic. They married on October 1, 1955, at Holy Angels Church and began their married life on a farm in Warrenville where they lived for 10 years before returning to Marywood and Annunciation Church where their story began.

Mary Lou was primarily a stay-at-home mom who also enjoyed babysitting and working retail once the children were older. She began her career at Ace Hardware before moving to the Little Traveler in Geneva, where she worked in sales, management and purchasing. This was a natural fit for Mary Lou, whose kindness and genuine interest in people complemented her eye for fashion and decorating. Mary Lou also volunteered generously at Annunciation parish and school.

Above all else, Mary Lou’s true passion was her family, centered on her incredible marriage with Tony, with whom she shared four children, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mary Lou and Tony were inseparable throughout their marriage, putting each other first and providing their family a model of love and marriage. Mary Lou raised her children with generosity, patience, and humor, and her children will forever have memories of happy childhoods of baking, family road trips piled in the station wagon, carnivals in the garage, game nights and stuffed animal “set ups” in their family room for days at a time. Mary Lou and Tony spent their retirement enjoying their family and also traveling, including multiple full family trips to Disney and trips to Europe and Asia. After Tony passed away in 2009, Mary Lou carried on with strength and grace as the center of the family, loved by her children and grandchildren who described her as “an angel” and “the nicest person I’ve ever known”, while also “funny” and “the Yahtzee champion”. It is a testament to Mary Lou that she maintained her kind and gentle care for others through her illness.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Tony, her parents, her son in law Jack Hollis and her brother Tom Leick. She is survived by her four children Deb Hollis of Hinckley, IL, Dan (Lori) Pattermann of St. John, IN, Diane (John) Isbrandt of St. Charles, IL, and Donna (John) Blatchford of Glen Ellyn, IL; eleven grandchildren, Ashley Hollis and Katie (Bernie) Conley, Julie (Josh) LaRocque and Mark (Melissa) Pattermann, Brianna (Eugene) Michael, Erik and Alyssa Isbrandt, and Annie, Peter, Janie, and Henry Blatchford; eight great- grandchildren, Olivia, Ava, and Emmy LaRocque, Callie and Jack Conley, Adalynn and Elliott Michael, and Daniel Pattermann; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to her many caregivers for the loving care given to Mary Lou, most especially to her granddaughters Alyssa Isbrandt, who brought comfort and laughter to her grandmother as a live-in caregiver for the last 8 months of her life, and Ashley Hollis who helped and brought her own special humor and kind and loving care.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Daleiden Mortuary (220 North Lake Street, Aurora, IL Phone: 630-631-5500). The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10:00 am at Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church in Aurora, IL. Interment will follow in Marywood Cemetery at Annunciation.
