Michael J. Foley, of Austin, Texas, born into this world on October 1, 1973, passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2026, following a brief illness. Michael is survived by his beloved daughters, Erin and Colleen Foley, ex-wife, Shannon (Swiderski), adoring mother and step-father, Cathy and Rick Rosen of Utica, Illinois, devoted father, Attorney Jack Foley of Chicago, and close siblings including brothers, Brendan (Ann) Foley of LaGrange, Illinois, James (Jama) Foley, and Matt Rosen and sisters, Jennifer (Nick) Dinham and Annie (Otto Junker) Foley, all of Chicago, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael was a graduate of Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and moved to Austin 25 years ago to join its burgeoning software industry. Over the years, he was responsible for several innovations in development and was highly regarded in his field. Michael was a joy to be around, kind and gentle, quick with a joke, and a lover of music, movies and television series. He was a prodigious reader and excelled in his knowledge of current affairs. Michael loved his family with profound intensity and they, in turn, are overwhelmed by his loss. His affable personality and exceptional insight were apparent to all he encountered. He was happiest of all with family and friends in whose hearts he will always reside.

A private burial service for Michael’s immediate family led by Fr. Paul Carlson took place earlier this summer at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica, Illinois. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 PM, at Mrs. Murphy’s Irish Bistro, 3905 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Michael’s daughters’ college fund or to a favorite charity.
