Milton Ward Sr. OBITUARY

Milton “Conway” Ward was born on September 28, 1933 in Gary, Indiana. He peacefully transitioned on May 14, 2026. He was born to Roosevelt and Gladys Ward Sr., he was the youngest of four sons. Milton graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951. While attending high school, he met the love of his life, Lillie Harris. On Milton’s 18th birthday the two were united in marriage, beginning a beautiful journey together that lasted more than 74 years. From this union they were blessed with two children, Milton Ward Jr. and Victoria Ward Artis.

Milton dedicated many years of service to the U.S. Steel where he was deeply involved in union Leadership and politics until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement Milton and Lillie founded Ward & Affiliates Inc. which they successfully operated for more than 50 years.

Milton was a founding member of Christ Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the Usher Board. He was also an active member of Men for Christ, chairman of the By-Laws Committee, a member of the Budget Committee, and chairman of the Financial Oversight Committee.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 74 years Lillie “Doll” Ward; son Milton Ward Jr.; daughter Victoria (Filmore) Artis; four grandchildren Christopher Artis, Ryan Artis, Amanda (Charles) Clay and Kimberly Ward; five great grandchildren; one brother-in-law Lawrence Harris and a host of nieces, Nephews other relatives and dear friends that will truly miss him.

Visitation Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 9:00a.m. -11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All services at Christ Baptist Church 4700 East 7th Avenue Gary, Indiana. Rev. Lawrence E. Robertson officiating. Interment Fern Oak Cemetery.
