Norman Joseph Sachman OBITUARY

Norman died peacefully at home in Jacksonville, FL on the afternoon of April 8th. A life-long Chicagoan who proudly hailed from Bucktown, he left high school to serve his country in the US Marine Corps from 1951-1954, serving as a corporal on the Korean Peninsula. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Service Medal. He joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1961, serving as an engineer until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Niles Memorial VFW Post 3579 and proudly served as Commander of the Korean War Veterans Association Post 25. He resided in the Portage Park neighborhood for 65 years until moving to his Jacksonville home in 2024. He was a die-hard and long suffering sports fan who loved the Cubs, the Bears, the Black Hawks and Notre Dame. In his retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife of 65 years, Denyse, visiting nearly 100 countries while taking in the beauty and joy that the world has to offer while befriending many. He embodied values that are in too short supply these days-integrity, honor, neighborliness, a true love of country and the value of hard work. He is survived by his wife Denyse, his daughter Lorine Bosshart and her husband Mike and their children Ryan and Olivia as well as his son Stephen and his wife Alexia along with their children Julia and Nicholas. He was predeceased by his youngest grandson Matthew in 2024. He was immensely proud of all of them and took great joy in watching them become young adults. His was a life lived in full. He will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery in a private family ceremony later this spring.
