Peg Nordensten OBITUARY

November 16, 1928 – June 14, 2026

Margaret Martin “Peg” Nordensten, 97, of San Mateo, California, passed away peacefully at her home on June 14, 2026.

Peg lived a full life and was a cherished mother and friend who will be deeply missed. She was known for her good humor, her active lifestyle, and being a loyal friend. Her youthful passions included snow and water skiing, while her lifelong passions were bowling, traveling, volunteering, and being an active community member.

Peg was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Margaret R. and Joseph W. Martin, both of whom preceded her in death, as did her brother, John Ritchie Martin. Starting in elementary school, she developed many long-term friendships that she maintained throughout her life. She was married and her two children (Rick & Nancy) were born in Chicago.

Two months after Nancy was born, the family moved to California and settled in Concord, where Peg lived for almost 40 years. Peg was a homemaker, an active volunteer at Fair Oaks Elementary School, and for one year, the president of the Fair Oaks Parent Teachers Association. She also volunteered for the Colony Park Neighbors Association, the Girl Scouts, and the Bay Area Crisis Nursery. Peg was an avid bowler, and she bowled on the Fair Oaks School league and participated in numerous tournaments. She developed and maintained many strong, lifelong friendships while living in Concord.

In 2004, Peg moved to Half Moon Bay, California to enjoy the cooler weather, the ocean, and to be closer to family. She lived there for almost 20 years and was active in several groups, including the Senior Coastsiders, the AAUW (American Association of University Women), and the Seniors in Action Bowling league. She volunteered at the Seton Coastside gift shop, the Johnston House Foundation, and the Peninsula Humane Society. Through the community groups and volunteering, she developed many active friendships in Half Moon Bay.

In 2023, Peg moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in San Mateo, CA. Peg thrived as part of the Sunrise community, and she was known for her friendly disposition, her whistling, and her good humor. Peg’s family is very grateful to the Sunrise staff and residents, as well as the Sutter Hospice team for their care and support.

A private service with her family will be held in the future to scatter her ashes near Half Moon Bay.

If so inspired, Peg’s favorite charities were Doctors without Borders and the American Lung Association.
