Peggy Jean Allen peacefully passed on April 24, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Peggy was baptized at an early age and raised on a strong foundation of faith that guided her throughout her life.
She was educated in the Gary Public School system and proudly graduated from Roosevelt High School, Class of 1959. During her school years, Peggy was a cheerleader, reflecting the confidence, She attended Indiana University Northwest until 1961. Peggy married the love of her life, Corashio Allen in 1961, 2 children were born to this union, Debra Lynn and Janet Patrice.
Peggy worked for 16 years at Rand McNally Publishing Company before joining the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, located in the Gary Police Station. There, she faithfully served as Office Manager, retiring after an extraordinary 27 years of service. Affectionately known as “Ms. Peggy,” she was highly admired and deeply loved by all who worked with her. Her professionalism, integrity, and warm spirit left a lasting impression on colleagues, officers, attorneys, and leadership alike. Peggy was a faithful and active member of Zion Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Norman J. Hairston, Sr, where she also served as a Trustee. She later joined Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dwight Gardener. Following retirement, Peggy relocated to the Dallas, Texas area to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She became a member of St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, where she became one of the first inductees into the Senior Saints of Wisdom in 2011 and faithfully participated in the Keenagers Weekly Bible Study until she was no longer physically able. Her family finds deep comfort in knowing that she experienced complete happiness and fulfillment during her years in Dallas.
Peggy leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted daughters, Debra Allen and Janet Booker (Raymond); her adored grandchildren, Sydney Alexandria Walls, Raymond Montez Booker III, and Reilly Corashio Booker; and her beloved sisters, Louise (Fountain) Green, Cathy Saleem, and Annetrice Bills.
She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members whom she loved dearly.
Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her special friend and caregiver LaTisha Strahan, for her compassion, care, and unwavering support.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her church families of Zion Progressive Baptist Church, New Mt Hebron Baptist Church, St Luke Community United Methodist Church, and Trinity Baptist Church, along with dear friends whose lives were touched by her faith, kindness, and joyful spirit.
Memorial Service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held on Friday, May 8th at 5 pm at the Dynasty Banquet Hall, 4125 Calumet Ave, Hammond IN. Dinner will be served.
Peggy Jean Allen’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will live on forever.
