Pinkey Mary Joyce Gray, affectionately known as PJ, was born on November 13, 1940, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Rayfield Stringer, Sr. and Sallie Roberson. She peacefully transitioned on June 24, 2026, in Choctaw, Oklahoma. A graduate of Hammond High School and Calumet College of St. Joseph, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees and enjoyed a distinguished career with Humiston-Keeling, Indiana Bell/AT&T, and the Hammond School System. A devoted member of First Baptist Church and Diamond Life Member of the Gary Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., PJ faithfully served her church and community through volunteerism and philanthropy. She loved traveling, embraced life with confidence, and inspired others through faith, generosity, and strength. Preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Rayfield Stringer, Jr. and Mack Stringer, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, Yana L. (Michael) Gray-Mays and Byron Gray, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and loving family and friends. Visitation Monday July 13, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with family hour from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Omega Service at 10:30 a.m. All services at the First Baptist Church 626 West 21st Avenue Gary, Indiana 46407. Rev. Nicole Guns officiating.
