Walter D. Mayfield peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on May 8, 2026. Born and raised in Chicago, Il he attended the Chicago Public Schools and graduated from Tilden High School. Afterwards he served in the United States Marine Corps. Walter retired from US Steel. Walter was preceded in death by his parents Calvin & Almeta Mayfield, brother Calvin W. Mayfield and sister Sandra Gough. Walter married Gwenavere Davis-Mayfield in 2014. He leaves behind brothers: Curtis Mayfield Marietta, Ga, Daniel Mayfield (Andrea) Zion, Il, sisters, Judith Mayfield Baldwin, MI, Celeste Oglesby Sylvania, Ga, Patrice Perry Roselle, Il. Two Sisters In-Law, Rev. Stephanie Jordan Michigan City, In, Arquella Garner Chicago, Il, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation Saturday, May 23, 2026, form 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed with Funeral Services at 10:00 a.m. at Smith, Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Richard Gordon Hatcher Blvd., Gary, IN 46408. www.smithbizzellwarnerfuneralhome.com
