British actor Michael York, who`ll star in CBS-TV`s ”Space” mini-series this spring, has an interesting premise about ”Falling In Love,” the Meryl Streep-Robert De Niro film that didn`t exactly pack `em in at movie theaters. If it had been a French movie, subtitled in English, York says, ”there would have been lines around the block. It had the best screen acting I`ve seen in a long time.” York says his Oxford schoolmate, author Jeffrey (”Cain and Abel”) Archer, is a great after-dinner speaker and frequently tells about pulling out of a school production at the last minute to allow his understudy to take over. The understudy was York, of course. ”There`s not a drop of truth to it,” York says, ”but it does make a great story.” . . . Marion
