CBS is so pleased with the results of ”Night Heat,” its gritty late-night detective series that premiered Jan. 31 and airs at 10:30 p.m. Thursdays on CBS-Ch. 2, that it has ordered an additional seven episodes. The original order was for six shows. Traditionally, the 10:30 p.m. slot on CBS has been reserved for reruns.

The series concerns the adventures of detectives Kevin O`Brien (played by Scott Hylands) and Frank Giambone (Jeff Wincott), partners on a metropolitan police force. Their work is chronicled by local newspaper reporter Tom Kirkwood (Allan Royal).

Thursday, O`Brien and Giambone hunt a serial killer who has terrorized the city.
