Is it any wonder Princess Anne is a little frosty toward her sister-in-law, the ever-photogenic Princess Di? A picture of Di on the cover of a European magazine is an absolute guarantee that sales of the magazine will go up by from 10 to 15 percent. But what happens when Anne graces a cover? ”It actually reduces sales,” writes Douglas Keay in his book ”Royal Pursuit.”
”Women are beginning to realize that if they want a guy, they have a better chance of getting him if they don`t move in with their pots and pans,” says Dr. Joyce Brothers. ”Living together was originally something women wanted because they weren`t willing to settle down,” says Brothers. ”What happened was, they spent good years with a man and cut themselves off from other men. They split the expenses 50-50, but it didn`t turn out to be equal because his 50 percent was only 25 percent of his income, while her 50 percent was 75 percent of hers. So when they broke up and divided everything down the middle, she got the raw end. She also found that while people are very supportive when you get divorced, if you`ve just been living together and you break up, everyone says, `I told you so.` And the other thing, men don`t marry the women they live with. If you compare dating couples and living-together couples, the dating couples are more likely to get married.”
”If a lawyer`s life were measured by the hours charged to clients, the average life of a lawyer would be 109,” says superstar attorney F. Lee Bailey. ”American lawyers are not ranked in a category with clerics and doctors but more regularly with morticians and used-car salesmen.” Writing in the March/April issue of Consumer`s Digest, Bailey admits he was regarded as a maverick early in his career, but he hopes that by the year 2000, when he will be 67, advances in the legal system will enable him ”to try cases more effectively for more clients than I can today.”
