Mayor Harold Washington and a coalition of religious and political leaders Sunday called for an increase in federal and state funds for food and health programs to low-income residents. The Illinois Hunger Action 1985, a coalition of 50 organizations, recommended increased funding of the federal food-stamp program and the restoration of federally subsidized school lunch and day-care feeding programs. The coalition also seeks $16 million in state funds from existing revenues.
