Fourteen reputed street-gang members have been indicted by the Cook County grand jury on charges of selling illegal narcotics on the West Side, State`s Atty. Richard Daley announced Friday. Daley said the drug sales were conducted from at least nine locations in the Austin neighborhood, mostly near Cicero Avenue between Washington Boulevard and Roosevelt Road. The indictments stemmed from ”Operation Cleanup,” a three-month undercover investigation by the Chicago Police Department`s gang crimes unit and Daley`s gang grand jury unit, Daley said. Undercover police officers and investigators from the state`s attorney`s office, posing as drug users, purchased heroin, cocaine and PCP from the defendants, Daley said.
